Hiram/Garrettsville Shop With A Cop 2016
The Hiram and Garrettsville Police Departments held their annual “Shop with a Cop” program, on Saturday December 17 at the Streetsboro Kmart.  The Shop with a Cop program provides Hiram/Garrettsville area children, and their families, the opportunity to enjoy the holiday season. The program is designed for less fortunate and under privileged children to go holiday shopping, for themselves and families, with a police officer from Hiram and Garrettsville Police Departments. The program brings about much heartfelt joy to a lot of area children and families. Our goal is that area children have the chance to enjoy the holiday season. We hold this program close to our hearts and it means a lot to us. This year, 32 children and their families participated in the program. We look forward to the “Shop with a Cop” program every year, seeing the looks on the children’s faces makes our holiday season. The “Shop with a Cop” program brings children and Safety officers together and builds a bond that is essential to community policing as well as provides for families that would be unable to bring about the holiday joy with food and gifts. There should be no child that feels the sense of confusion and the feeling of going “without” during the holiday season due to financial strains. This event would not be made possible without the charitable contributions from yearlong Fundraising Programs, local businesses and individual community donations. Special thank you to AVI Food Service, Maggies Doughnuts, Hiram Kiwanis and the Hiram Christian Church for providing a hot meal after shopping.
